Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Refresher

Refreshing confidence. Reaffirming boundaries. Strengthening early support.

Rebuild confidence in supporting young people — with clarity, consistency, and calm conversations.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid Refresher supports previously trained Youth MHFAiders to refresh their knowledge, strengthen practical skills, and extend their accreditation in line with Mental Health First Aid Australia requirements.

Delivered online, the refresher reinforces early recognition, appropriate responses, and clear escalation pathways — supporting safer, more confident practice when working with young people.

Introduction

Over time, even well-trained MHFAiders can feel less certain about how to respond — especially as situations, language, and guidance evolve.

The YMHFA Refresher provides a structured opportunity to revisit core principles, reconnect with the ALGEE Action Plan, and strengthen confidence in real-world conversations. Participants reaffirm their role, boundaries, and responsibilities, supporting early, appropriate action when concerns arise.

Why a YMHFA Refresher Matters

  • Confidence is renewed through guided discussion and practice
  • Core skills are reinforced for early recognition and response
  • Roles, responsibilities, and escalation pathways are clearly reinforced
  • Responses remain aligned across teams and school communities
  • Accreditation is extended in line with MHFA Australia guidelines

This supports consistency, trust, and shared responsibility when supporting young people.

The YMHFA Refresher is designed for people who:

  • Have previously completed an accredited Youth Mental Health First Aid course
  • Are currently accredited Youth MHFAiders, or whose accreditation is eligible for renewal
